Bringing Daily Breakfast to Aruba’s Schoolchildren in Need

This officially registered NGO began aiding Aruba’s schoolchildren in need during the 2001-2002 schoolyear as a community service project originally initiated by Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital to serve breakfast (a sandwich and milk or juice) to 138 children in need.

The non-subsidized foundation now operates independently and operationally, with approximately 815 children from kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools enrolled in the program, each receiving their daily breakfast at school.

Funds are acquired through individual sponsorships within the community. Sponsors contribute monthly through a standing order with his/her bank. Donations are also received from businesses and service clubs. Sponsorships are preferable, as this allows for continuity of the program.

Due to an increase in children in need combined with the rising cost of food items both locally and globally, the foundation needs financial sponsorship more than ever.

Application procedure
The school is responsible for enrollment of the child into the program by completing an application that is faxed or mailed.

Contribution dues
Enrollment into the program is free of charge for children in need. The program is a sponsorship program: anyone can sponsor a child for Afl. 25.00 per month. It is preferred that the sponsor submit the monthly payment via a standing order at his/her bank. The foundation has accounts with CMB, RBC, and Aruba Bank.

Additional remarks
The abovementioned amount is currently insufficient to cover the cost per child but has been maintained to encourage and facilitate sponsors. The cost is currently about Afl 35.00 per child; the difference is made up through much appreciated donations from individuals, organizations, and service clubs.
